The circumstances of Bret Hart's 1997 departure from WWE are pretty well-documented, so we'll spare you the history lesson - but suffice it to say, the manner of the divorce wasn't exactly amicable.

So nobody expected the Excellence of Execution to rock up on Monday Night Raw during mid-2005, even if it was in Montreal, his homeland and - poignantly - the site of his final WWE appearance nearly eight years prior.

And, sure enough, he didn't. It was all a ruse. Shawn Michaels - a suit-wearing heel - had his friends in the production truck play the Hitman's music to trick the crowd into believing Bret was back.

This wasn't technically a return, then - but the fans definitely thought it was, and gave us one of the biggest pops of all time. And by biggest, we mean cheapest.
