Fred Durst is the lead singer of Limp Bizkit, a totally respectable band that everyone still listens to. He has a pretty grungy and fairly hardcore public persona to maintain, and feels he must conduct himself in certain ways on camera to communicate that he is a cool dude.

As such, when the camera panned to Durst as he was stood in the crowd enjoying SummerSlam 2012 at the LA Staples Center, he pulled his best grumpy face and held up a middle finger.

10-15 years earlier, such a controversial gesture would have been right at home on WWE programming, amidst all the crotch chops, pee-pee chopping and jokes about big sausages, but in the modern PG climate, it was a big no-no and a number of websites claimed that Durst had been forcibly removed from the building for the profane finger-showing.

However, TMZ would later reveal that these rumours were false. Durst had instead, realising that flipping off the millions watching at home might not have been smart, left to go backstage in order to apologise, then left early to in his words, 'beat traffic'.

A rep from the WWE responded:"We appreciate Fred€™s apology. However, we take our family-friendly environment very seriously and this was a violation of that. We sincerely apologize to our fans.€
