"Making history" has become one of WWE's worst clichés. It's so overused that it's often impossible to take the times when they create genuinely historic moments seriously, but last night's women's match was special. Yes, the first half was all over the place, and yes, it won't go down as an all-time great Rumble, but it put several female performers on an almighty pedestal, and their performances will live on forever.

As if her list of accolades wasn't long enough already, Asuka will now go down as the first ever women's Royal Rumble winner. Naomi's great escape spot, though a retread of past Kofi Kingston material, gives her a hook for future matches. Era-defining women like Trish Stratus, Lita, and Beth Phoenix were made relevant to a brand new generation of fans. Sasha Banks looked like a 'Legit Boss' for the first time in forever. Young stars like Carmella rubbed shoulders with genuine pioneers. The list goes on.

No matter where their careers take them, these women now know that their exploits will live on in decades' worth of highlights packages. They all raised their game, and while the match wasn't short of problems, its long-term significance supersedes every single one.
