10 Biggest WWE WrestleMania Letdowns
9. Bad News Brown Vs. Roddy Piper (WrestleMania VI)
Racism was only one of the things wrong with Roddy Piper vs. Bad News Brown at WrestleMania VI. Times were different back then, but there's still no excusing Piper's decision to paint half his body black; if this was a statement designed to show skin colour meant nothing (which Roddy's use of a "Michael Jackson glove" suggested), it was poorly executed.
So was the match.
In his prime, Piper would have been a perfect opponent for the brawling Brown. Unable to use blood, weapons or any other shortcuts in 1990, they were limited to eye-pokes, hair-pulling and a few stiff punches here and there. The six-minute match didn't live up to the scrap both had months earlier at the Royal Rumble.
What should have been a highlight of the 'Mania VI card ended up being one of the most ineffective matches on the show by a long way. Mediocre might be the best word to describe it, because Piper and Brown didn't go hell for leather like promised.
