WWE decision to favour tradition over fan response in 2002 was a mistake. Triple H's quest to wrestle the Undisputed Title from a brash Chris Jericho at 'Mania X8 wasn't nearly as thrilling to fans in the Toronto SkyDome as watching Hulk Hogan roll back the years against The Rock.

Watch the main event again and you'll see that it wasn't actually too bad a match. No, Triple H and Jericho were workmanlike for 18 minutes and the babyface victory was one fans had told WWE they'd enjoy by cheering Trips like an all-conquering hero since his January return.

As much as they tried however, the pair couldn't top Hulkamania's reprise.

That left the headliner feeling like a anticlimax. Fans were brought down a notch after Hogan's masterful performance, and even the buffer of a Women's Title Triple Threat failed to save Triple H vs. Y2J. To the Canadian crowd, it was all downhill after Hulk.
