10 Biggest WWE WrestleMania Letdowns
6. Triple H Vs. Randy Orton (WrestleMania 25)
They'd make the same mistake, again with Triple H, seven years later.
Even more so than Triple H vs. Jericho (which was rather one-sided in terms of build), the 'Mania 25 main event had some meaty levels of heat going in. Orton had been convincing as a cold, calculating predator and Triple H wanted to avenge his family. It might have worked had The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels not preceded it.
After the emotion and drama of 'Taker vs. HBK, the Houston crowd were spent. Although they reacted politely for the World Title Triple Threat pitting John Cena against Big Show and Edge, the audience went to sleep during Triple H vs. Orton; the asinine stipulation WWE tacked on deserves the brunt of the blame.
The story relied on both guys mauling one another violently, so when it was announced that Triple H would lose the WWE Title if he was counted out or disqualified the match died a death. It was an impossible rescue mission for the pair from that point on, and their match ended up being bland.
