10 Bizarre Wrestling Conventions We All Take For Granted
1. You Can Insult, Threaten And Assault Your Boss And Not Get Fired
Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon. The Miz and Daniel Bryan. Seth Rollins and Triple H. Hell, even Kane delivering a Tombstone Piledriver to Linda McMahon. All of these are examples of employees rebelling against their bosses.
Seth Rollins has spent the better part of the last year challenging Triple H to a fight. The Miz has revived his career mostly by mocking Daniel Bryan and calling him a coward. It would be quicker to list the ways that Steve Austin didn’t make Mr. McMahon’s life hell. Imagine, if you will, what would happen if you did any of those things to your boss. Disciplinary hearing? Possible. Unemployment? Almost certain.
We’ve seen this sort of thing in wrestling promotions for years, and it’s a great way to build support for a babyface or heat for a heel. However, it’s not very often that it’s explained why the employees almost always escape punishment, and we hardly ever question why.
I guess we’re having too much fun to care. Part of the appeal of these kinds of stories is that most of us secretly wish we could tell our boss what we really think, tell him he’s an idiot, or give him a Stone Cold Stunner. It’s wish fulfilment for us all, and we’d love to do the same without consequences.
