10 Blatant WWE Cash Grabs
2. Punjabi Prison Match
Back before this unique match returned in 2017, the Punjabi Prison stipulation had only been seen on two other occasions in WWE.
The first two matches were used as a way of adding some extra menace to another one of Vince McMahon's pet projects in The Great Khali, even though the gigantic star was actually pulled from the first iteration of the match at Great American Bash 2006 due to a liver problem.
Not settling for using the gimmick as just a way of backing their new star, WWE doubled down on the match and created a Punjabi Prison play-set to pawn off to those children who yearned to throw their favourite stars off the imposing bamboo-enforced structure.
Khali and his opponent in the 2007 version of the match, Batista, were included in the set and it even boasted the two sets of cage walls which the wrestlers were tasked with climbing over in order to earn victory in real life.
It was another example of WWE trying to squeeze every drop of cash out of a limp concept, but remarkably the toys did actually see a surge in demand after the 2017 Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal bout was announced.
So, perhaps McMahon was just playing the long game, after all?
