10 Blockbuster WWE Returns That Would Improve Ratings Immediately

7. Alberto Del Rio

In the mid-2000s, the pushes that WWE gave to Smackdown superstars Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio made the show a smash hit among Hispanic viewers. Though Guerrero sadly passed away in 2005, Mysterio remained a crucial part of Smackdown, and the brand's success continued. In 2008, WWE shifted Mysterio to the Raw brand, but he was lost in the shuffle and the company's viewership dipped in a growing demographic. Moving Mysterio back to Smackdown in 2009 didn't help, and since then, the company has been trying to find a Hispanic superstar that would boost numbers. Alberto Del Rio debuted in 2010, but bad booking - especially when he was a babyface - kept him from reaching Mysterio's levels. Even Mistico, one of the all-time hottest stars in lucha libre, couldn't find success in WWE. In 2014, Del Rio was fired from the company after slapping an office worker who made a racist remark. After leaving, he repeatedly accused company higher-ups of racism, only stopping after reaching a non-disparagement agreement with WWE. A return seemed unlikely, but yet, rumors have popped up in that direction. Del Rio recently dropped out of season two of Lucha Underground, leading many to think that a WWE return is imminent. If Del Rio does come back, WWE has a chance to make him a huge superstar - provided they use him correctly.
