10 Bloodiest Fights In UFC History

6. Jim Miller Vs. Joe Lauzon (UFC 155)

Joe Lauzon is one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC whose aggressive and well-rounded style has earned him multiple performance bonuses, as well as plaudits from fans and commentators alike. The entertainment from this fight, however, was derived mostly from Lauzon taking a savage beating courtesy of Jim Miller.

Setting an astonishing pace, Miller busted ‘J Lau’ open with a striking blitz, landing clean combinations of punches, hard knees to the body and stiff standing elbows. Undeterred, the Massachusetts native pushed forward with strikes of his own as the crowd roared him on in one of the year’s most rousing rounds.

Typical of his appetite for battle, a bloody-but-not-beaten Lauzon motioned for the crowd to keep shouting their encouragement at the start of the second frame. Short of blood he may have been but he certainly wasn’t lacking in heart.

The contest inevitably slowed after the breathless intensity of round one, but the blood-letting continued at an alarming pace. ‘J-Lau’ suffered numerous lacerations during the bout and revealed post-fight that he needed 40 stitches to repair the damage. Miller was not immune from the flesh-ripping carnage either as he revealed a cut under his left eye after wiping his face clean of Lauzon’s blood.

Both fighters were greeted with a well-deserved standing ovation at the bell in recognition of an epically violent bloodbath. Lauzon may have lost the fight and pints of blood, but gutsy performances like this have established him as a true fan favourite.
