Fans may well question the logic of booking this huge match at Clash of Champions, but it is important to remember that this is the same company that booked the hugely anticipated Shield triple threat at Background. AJ vs. Nakamura happens in WWE for the first time, and it does so just one week before Christmas.

The match takes place under a dark cloud however. WWE Champion Shinsuke Nakamura is interviewed prior to the match, only to be viciously attacked by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. The Good Brothers had their run-ins with Nakamura in New Japan, and Anderson in particular will be extra vicious here. It is a little known fact that Anderson actually has a winning head-to-head record against Nakamura, with three victories to Shinsuke’s two.

Despite the attack, Nakamura will still be able to make it out for his championship main event. AJ Styles will be absolutely furious at the situation, not wanting to the win the title in such dubious circumstances. It should be made clear at this point that AJ wants nothing to do with the actions of Gallows and Anderson.

Styles is no fool however, and he isn’t about to stare stupidly into the mouth of the gift horse he has been presented with. AJ Styles pins Shinsuke Nakamura, becoming a two-time WWE Champion in the process.
