Randy Orton? More like Randy Snore-ton! Orton seems to have so much going for him, but its just so, so hard to care about anything he does. Orton debuted back in 2002, and it was clear that management had him pegged as a future star. It was hard to argue with that call, as hes got a great look, and a Hall of Fame lineage. He was given a big push early in his career, the likes of which we dont see very often. WWE legends found out he meant business after he killed one after the next to earn his moniker. WWE now had two potential top level stars for the next decade in John Cena and Randy Orton. Unfortunately for Orton, he never rose to the level of his adversary. Despite receiving an ungodly amount of titles and plenty of TV time, its been years since he has really felt like an interesting character. After getting into trouble with the companys wellness policy, Randys storyline support went away. That created a lot of tedium with his chracter. Eventually he was thrust back into the main event scene, but was firmly planted behind Stephanie McMahon and HHH in The Authority. While walking to the ring Orton looks like he couldnt care less. His promos are uninspiring, and sound overly rehearsed. Theres simply nothing fresh about Orton, and hes only 34-years-old and incredibly overexposed. Hes number No. 4 with the all-time most Raw matches (369), and at the rate hes going, hell probably be the No. 1 within the next couple of years. Does anyone really need that much Randy Orton? A nice break from him where he takes time off to re-kindle the fire, and avoid dangerous levels of television overexposure would be good for all of us.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
