10 Boring WWE Feuds That Dragged On WAY Too Long
6. Kevin Owens Vs. Shawn McMahon
Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon had a very strange rivalry in 2019.
Owens was arguably the hottest character in the company with his anti-authoritarian gimmick, and Shane was the perfect villain for Owens to go up against. This seemed like the perfect ingredient for a one and done feud, cementing KO at the top of the blue brand.
What happened was a long, drawn out rivalry with the one thing wrestling fans just love... legal documentation. Shane was at his absolute worst in this feud, garnering go-away heat due to his place on both Raw and SmackDown. The 20 minute segments on each show between Owens and McMahon really didn't help the pacing either.
Everything was thrown into this feud. Firings, one hundred thousand dollar fines, and a town hall meeting. It made for a convoluted storyline rather than a streamlined anti-authority narrative. The two battled at SummerSlam, where Owens picked up the victory, finally dethroning Shane.
WWE however, decided to extend the feud even further, leading to a ladder match on SmackDown, the first episode on FOX. The ladder match was fine, but it didn't need to happen. The feud reached a perfect conclusion at SummerSlam and the extension really hurt Owens as a babyface.
