10 Brodie Lee Matches To Rewatch And Relive

1. Brodie Lee Vs. Cody (AEW Dynamite 07/10/2020)

"The magnitude of tomorrow night's match is certainly not lost on me. These are exactly the moments I signed up for. The gravity of it all is welcomed and embraced. Big boy champ sh*t. Let's f*cking go! Live your heart and never follow."

That was what Brodie Lee tweeted the day before his brutal Dog Collar match with Cody, a violent tussle that would be the last match of his career. Little did we know at the time that this 20-minute classic would be the last time we got to see The Exalted One in the squared circle.

What a way to go out. This bloody battle evoked memories of classic dog collar matches gone by, of pro wrestling as a visual interpretation of attrition and war. Two men putting everything on the line for a championship in its formative years. Brodie may have come up short in defending his title on this occasion, but this match did more for the TNT Championship than anything else could possibly do.

Lee was open about the physical toll this all-timer took out on his body, brutality that he said was an ordeal he endured for the benefit of the fans. The best match of his career? It is difficult to argue.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
