The current UK Champion may not be the biggest surprise departure to come in 2017 from the once-favoured British Isles crew (more on that later), but a lack of clear direction for his career with or without the title in WWE's muddled experimental project may result in a refocused outlook for the ultra-talented 'Bruiserweight'.
Alongside Tyler Bate and Trent Seven, Dunne is part the enormously popular 'British Strong Style' triumvirate on one side of the Atlantic whilst portraying an equal-opportunities offender on the other. Elsewhere on home soil independents and beyond, Dunne masterfully portrays a hard-hitting babyface or killer heel as required, at one point in 2017 holding multiple top titles as recognition of his excellence in the field.
As WWE continue drag their feet in launching whatever the UK concept is designed to be, Dunne only looks weaker in his position atop it. The Birmingham-born battler may find himself with more to lose in reputation than financially there is to gain, particularly if Vince McMahon shelves the idea entirely but wishes to keep the elite of his UK selection on retainers for utility spots in NXT.
