10 Car Crash Wrestling Matches That You Absolutely Adore

1. The Fiend Vs. Seth Rollins - Hell In A Cell 2019

This isn't the best match here, it isn't the most chaotic in terms of physicality, but it's number 1 because it's the most notable disaster in recent memory. There was anger at the failed babyface push of Seth Rollins, anger at the dumbing down and burial of The Fiend, anger at the presentation and the structure of the match, anger at the disrespect to Hell in a Cell's legacy and anger at the company for selling it as a main event.

And yet, if we're all being honest with ourselves, it's a banger.

We wanted the Fiend to walk out champion, whether that was out of admiration for Wyatt or ironic joy. At the time, it felt like they were throwing out his dedication but he won the belt the next month, he had a match with Cena at Mania which he won. He lost to Goldberg but he recovered and has kept amplifying his creativity. Even Rollins turned heel and is over! It worked out for them both; this wasn't their finale.

So now we can receive it as just a match, not one that ruined careers but provided the outline for the next stage of them.

It's arguably the funniest match they've ever put on, with the overwhelming finisher kick-outs, Rollins' "Why Am I So Violent" face and The Big Hammer all being priceless comedic moments. The finish was him hitting a hammer over a pile of chairs and a ladder, there was absolutely zero contact! It ends with fans screaming for AEW and fake blood foaming at Rollins' mouth. As a cohesive main event, it failed. As a work of surreal comedy, it's one of the most re-watchable and entertaining matches they've ever done. For better or for worse, it'll be remembered.

Maybe the burn still hurts for those who were invested but if you go back to it with the benefit of hindsight, maybe you'll be able to smile over The Fiend always kicking out at one.
