10 Car Crash Wrestling Matches That You Absolutely Adore
8. Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer And Beulah McGillicutty Vs. Mick Foley, Edge And Lita - One Night Stand 2006
One Night Stand 2006 is often remembered as a one match show from contemporary audiences, known for the vindictiveness of the crowd towards John Cena in the main event against Rob Van Dam and the catharsis that came from Van Dam winning the ECW and WWE titles. However, the most entertaining contest from that show and one that captured the true kinetic energy and madness of classic ECW is the six-person hardcore tag match with Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer and Beulah McGillicutty versus Mick Foley, Edge and Lita, which stands up now as one of the most gleeful displays of violence ever produced by the WWE.
It's not the goriest match, but the violence truly cuts at the soul because of the performers taking the brunt of the offence, hardcore legends Mick Foley and Terry Funk putting their bodies through barbed wire tables, hitting each other with flaming 2 by 4's and stabbing each other in the eyes will never stop being a sight to behold.
The babyface gets sent to the back and comes back out for the finish trope can often feel forced in WWE, but Funk coming back with a bandage over the eye ready to keep murdering is the most genuine it's ever felt.
The structure of the match beyond this feels practically non-existent, with Dreamer getting brutalised by everything, McGillicutty practically doing nothing beyond getting pinned in an extremely sexual way by Edge (which has not aged well) and all of the spots feeling like they were improvised five seconds beforehand.
There's no cohesion or perfect calibration, just incoherent madness supported by an ecstatic crowd, and it rules so hard.
