Most older pro wrestling fans know the story, Mick Foley wasn't exactly thrilled by the gimmick Vince McMahon had in mind for him in the WWF. Eventually, he managed to tweak the character from 'Mason The Mutilator' to Mankind, even going along with McMahon's assertions that he wear a mask. That character would go on to become one of the promotion's most popular.

Debuting in mid-1996, Mankind almost immediately entered a feud opposite The Undertaker. Foley must have been a refreshing foe for 'Taker, who had often been forced to wrestle bumbling giants like Mabel and King Kong Bundy beforehand. Mankind offered something different, and the opportunity for excellent matches.

The Undertaker did everything in his power to make Foley look tremendous during their first match at the 1996 King Of The Ring event. Losing to the newcomer, he helped Mankind become a hot topic in quick fashion. There's no doubt about it, if this match had sucked, Mick Foley may not have gone on to the heights he later would.
