Whenever Kenny Omega returns to AEW, he has a lot to deal with. Adam Cole's position as leader of the Undisputed Elite, Jay White and Bullet Club, the Young Bucks allowing Hangman to hit the Buckshot Lariat, and a new AEW Champion.
If Punk v Danielson would be one of the greatest matches in AEW history, then this would be up there with it. Whether it's before Kenny deals with the Elite drama or after, Omega and Punk will surely clash over the title. While maintaining the status quo of heel Omega vs face Punk seems more likely, switching the dynamics could make this even more interesting.
Punk has a history of turning heel while champion. He turned at the start of his final run as ROH World Champion, he turned during his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion in WWE, and he turned in the middle of his 434-day reign as WWE Champion. While Cody Rhodes led the charge, it was always Kenny Omega who always seemed destined to be AEW's top babyface. That's part of what made his heel turn so effective, and it's why he would be the perfect man to challenge a CM Punk who, once again, has let the glory of being champion go to his head.
