10 Challengers Who Should Face CM Punk For The AEW World Championship
5. Samoa Joe
On 19 March 2005, CM Punk and Samoa Joe wrestled each other one on one for the last time at an indy show in Coventry. Their feud is legendary. Their trilogy of matches for the ROH World Championship, including a pair of 60-minute time limit draws, is one of the greatest series of matches in wrestling history. Now they find each other in the same company once again, and it's surely only a matter of time before they find themselves across the ring from one another.
Now that Tony Khan owns ROH, the promo packages can include footage from those matches. The two can lean on their history together, but use it to show how far they've come since start of their careers in the early 2000s. Punk has never beaten Joe, a fact that can add some extra stakes to an already weighty conflict. AEW knows its audience well, and playing up all of this historic significance will go down very well indeed.
Some may say that their rivalry is perfect as it is and should be left in the past. But these two warriors going on one last dance together would be a fitting way to close the book on their story.
