10 Changes To Fix WWE's Ratings Woes

9. Merge Some Divisions

If there was no brand split right now, WWE would have a pretty strong tag division and women’s division. But there just isn’t enough women who are employed by the company, or enough tag teams on Raw or SmackDown to justify both shows featuring each division.

Looking at WWE’s roster page on Wikipedia, there are 37 men who are currently active on the show. There are 7 active women. SmackDown has 6. When there’s only 7 (or 6), competitors you’re going to see the exact same matches over, and over, and over again. You’re going to burn out the audience on seeing each wrestler, and hell, just holding a title doesn’t feel that special when there’s so few people trying to take it from you.

If WWE put all the women wrestlers on SmackDown, that would give the show a unique identity, and it would give them 13 competitors to start with. That may even be enough to bring in some women tag titles as well, or perhaps a secondary title. With that in place, they could move the male tag teams over to Raw and make that show feel different as well.

Basically, it's better to have two strong divisions than two very obviously depleted ones.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
