10 Common WWE Things You Won't See In AEW
5. No Valets/Managers
Aside from Zelina Vega (and the aforementioned, broken Sami Zayn), WWE has long been a land devoid of managers and valets entirely. There simply isn't a place in the company for something that Vince doesn't like, and therefore this is a slowly dying art in the world of wrestling. Which is a shame, given the rich history the role holds.
But AEW is showing signs that they could be going another direction with this. One of the more important aspects of Cody versus Shawn Spears was the inclusion of Tully Blanchard at ringside. This ended up becoming a focal point of the match, both in the build up and the execution. This made the story between Spears and Cody all that much more personal, and did an excellent job of helping get Spears over in the process.
And that is why managers fit in so perfectly with what AEW is looking to accomplish. Many people forget how well a manager can help someone's career given the lack of usage of them in recent years. But Brock Lesnar, one of WWE's most prized possessions, may not be the Beast he is known to be if it wasn't for the verbal skills of Paul Heyman, which makes it all the more ironic that the McMahons have nearly abandoned this art altogether.
Expect this to be a differentiating feature of AEW, as they will look to build as many Lesnar sized stars as they can. Although, maybe not quite of his physical stature.
