WWE: 10 Contenders For Bill Goldberg At WrestleMania 31

5. Batista

In many respects Batista has failed to 'get over' with fans since his WWE return at the Royal Rumble. Many have criticised the ease in which Batista has returned to the main event scene. Despite the attempts of the WWE Creative Team in persevering in its push of Batista, the WWE Universe has seemingly responded in a resoundingly negative fashion. As a result, the WWE seemingly changed the WrestleMania 30 main event to pacify staunch critics denouncing Batista's automatic WrestleMania main event spot, and has even reunited Evolution in a bid to try and rejuvenate a widely unpopular Batista gimmick. What is certain is that Batista's 2014 return has been at best a complete disaster. However if the WWE recognised that a Batista/Goldberg clash could potentially make Batista relevant again, then the wider WWE Universe might react more positively to its efforts. The two wrestlers have crossed paths before, as Batista famously broke Goldberg's ankle with a steel chair, so there is potential to draw material from the past and create an angle in which Goldberg might want to exact his revenge against Batista. Perhaps in order for this storyline to work best, Batista needs to be promoted as a straight forward heel, allowing WWE writers to revisit the dangerous Batista gimmick from the glory days of Evolution. Furthermore the match itself could prove to be a great opportunity to introduce 'powerhouse wrestling' to a PG audience more accustomed to the mat and technical prowess of competitors such as Alberto Del Rio, The Uso's and Kofi Kingston.
