10 Contenders To Replace Daniel Bryan As WWE SmackDown General Manager

2. Edge

Edge Retirement

For a long time in the late-2000s, Edge was SmackDown Live. The 'Rated-R Superstar' dominated the blue brand as champion, whether he was on top as a dastardly opportunist or a babyface veteran star. The WWE Hall of Famer was blue through and through - so long as it meant he kept hold of the World Heavyweight Championship that is.

Edge has appeared on WWE TV a few times since his emotional retirement way back in April 2011, and his WWE Network show with Christian has gotten over a rocky start to become one of the most entertaining programs available. Is the time right for Edge to return to the blue brand full time?

Edge is a perfect fit as SmackDown General Manager. His in-ring history makes him a hugely respected figure, but he also has the character and comedy chops to entertainingly cover a huge variety of segments. There may be no better candidate for the role than the Rated-R Superstar.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
