10 Contenders To Replace Daniel Bryan As WWE SmackDown General Manager

3. William Regal

Whenever an on-screen vacancy comes up in WWE, fans all over the world clamour for William Regal to be thrust into the spot. William Regal is undoubtedly one of the most compelling characters on WWE TV and has been for a long time. The Brit understands what it takes to be a successful authority figure, as his time in NXT has shown.

Is Regal better off staying in NXT? Maybe. There is an argument that the developmental brand is a better place to work than the main roster. The performers are seemingly free of the constraints that make RAW and SmackDown such a drag - the Regal we see on NXT may not be the Regal we get on SmackDown Live.

But no conversation about a possible General Manager can take place without mentioning the former King of the Ring. The theory still goes that the best performers should get to perform on the biggest stages, and there aren’t many better than the true villain, William Regal.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
