10 Contenders To Replace JBL On WWE SmackDown Live

4. Nigel McGuinness

I should preface this by saying I am against Nigel McGuinness moving to the SmackDown brand, as I am all in on the Brit acting as the new J.J. Dillion at the head of an NXT version of the Four Horseman, shepherding the careers of Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish.

WWE is unlikely to go down that route with the former Ring of Honor stars, so McGuinness must be considered a possible contender for ‘promotion’ to SmackDown Live. The former ROH World Champion did a great job at the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament, good enough to secure him a role replacing Corey Graves on NXT.

McGuinness’ work on NXT has been somewhat overshadowed by Mauro Ranallo’s move to the brand, but he has shown enough quality to convince many that a role as heel commentator on the main roster awaits him. The thought of Nigel McGuinness having to talk up the ability of Jinder Mahal is somewhat depressing, but you can’t win them all.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
