10 Crazy Gimmicks Wrestling's Top Stars Endured

7. Dolph Ziggler (The Spirit Squad/Kerwin White's Caddy)

Today, Dolph Ziggler is often held up as an example of everything WWE are doing wrong with talent. Definitely one of the best in-ring performers to come along in years, Ziggler managed to make a success of a pretty terrible gimmick - it seems all the WWE's writing staff had for the character was that he'd introduce himself to people backstage, which isn't exactly a recipe that creates main event matches. Regardless of how well Dolph has done with what he's handed, he still has never really been able to become the man in WWE, despite his consistency inside the ring and popularity with the fans. On a more positive note, at least what he's doing now allows him to focus fully on actually wrestling, which wasn't always the case. A lot of fans remember the man as part of The Spirit Squad, a group of purposely annoying male cheerleaders, but there's another gimmick that Ziggler would like folks to forget. In 2005, Chavo Guerrero was transformed into Kerwin White, in one of the worst ideas WWE's creative department has ever had. As the white, middle-class snob, White liked to golf, and guess who was his caddy? That's right, Dolph Ziggler.
