10 Crazy Wrestling Partnerships That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Did)
1. Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens
Chris Jericho wore many hats throughout his WWE career, from the self-righteous "best in the world at what I do," to arrogant metal frontman as 'The Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla', to the Rock-confronting 'Y2J.' What we're saying is the man has range, though he never played a character even remotely like 'Prizefighter' Kevin Owens.
KO's own persona has evolved over the years, though that a bruiser like him would even consider teaming up with a prima donna in Jericho would've been an absurd concept at one point. Regardless, it worked. Owens went from 'Prizefighter' to obnoxious chickensh*t heel as he was elevated towards the main event scene, giving him commonality with the List-totting/"stupid idiot" version of Jericho, who'd once again proved himself a master of reinvention. Together, they comprised the bulk of WWE's best programming for their entire run.
Owens and Jericho were so entertaining together that their eventual explosion was absolutely heartbreaking. The Festival of Friendship remains an all-time great angle and while Vince McMahon himself didn't like their WrestleMania 33 blowoff, much of what preceded it was dynamite. From bullying Tom Phillips to scheming through multiple Universal Title defences, this duo killed it.
