During his infamous Colt Cabana podcast, CM Punk claimed Vince McMahon would not allow him to walk Chael Sonnen ringside for a UFC fight in his hometown of Chicago. He alleged McMahon saw the UFC as a barbaric enterprise, one that would eventually see the death of a fighter. What was interesting was that The Undertaker was allowed to be interviewed by FIGHT! Magazine moments after the conclusion of UFC 121 just two years prior.
A night before losing a championship bout to his demonic brother Kane, 'Taker revealed in a rare interview that he had plans beyond WWE. He proposed he would enjoy managing MMA fighters in the future. Most wrestlers had an exit plan after their time in WWE was done, but for as much as WWE protected The Big Dog, one might have thought they would have attempted to keep kayfabe while he was fresh in everyone’s minds.
His discussion about managing MMA fighters that October was one of the few times anyone would see ‘Taker until April of 2011, which left some to wonder whether he simply hung his coat and decided to get into business for himself. A more significant concern was that, before his appearance and afterward, WWE rarely allowed its superstars to be seen at UFC events.
The Undertaker’s interview after the UFC event may have come across as another double-standard backstage, as there was no word that he was punished for the interview - or when he called out Brock Lesnar immediately after his loss at the event.
