10 Crucial Steps In Batista's WWE Evolution

3. Feuding With The Undertaker

Returning in the Summer of 2006, Batista would eventually win back the World Heavyweight Title by beating Booker T at Survivor Series. This set the scene nicely for one huge feud that fans had been waiting to see, Batista vs. The Undertaker. 'The Deadman' would win the 2007 Royal Rumble match, which meant he was directly in line to challenge the champion at WrestleMania 23. There, Undertaker would defeat Batista and claim the title. It was a well-received effort, and '07 would be a fruitful year for the duo. Showing good chemistry together, they worked further bouts at Backlash, on Smackdown, and later at Cyber Sunday and the 2007 Survivor Series. In between times, Edge actually won the title from 'Taker, who then subsequently vacated the belt due to injury. This later led to a match between the new champ, The Great Khali, Batista and Rey Mysterio at Unforgiven. Batista once more won the World Title, and resumed his feud against Undertaker. Survivor Series prompted a stirring Hell In A Cell war, one which saw a returning Edge become involved in the action. He cost The Undertaker the match, allowing Batista to leave with the title. Just like with Triple H, this was a suitable ending to an epic and lengthy rivalry that had dominated much of the year.
