GUNTHER, under Paul Levesque, was promoted as a legitimate Final Boss, parading the Intercontinental Title as if it were a real, legitimate sporting trophy, a venomous striker whose every blow could be the last, a destructive powerhouse who makes Ricochet his basketball, a tenacious worker whose inaugural Royal Rumble performance broke a 17-year performance record set by Rey Mysterio (the Greatest Royal Rumble excluded), a dependable hand who was expectantly going to play a primary role for ten to 12 years.

GUNTHER, under Vince McMahon, was going to be buried.

WrestleVotes, per GiveMeSport, reaffirmed the belief that Vince McMahon wasn't impressed by GUNTHER's 4 July stint vs. R-Truth, and was indeed ready to either send the Austrian leviathan back to NXT or bury him. The former WALTER had already undergone a laborious task in order to gain upper management's confidence, shedding an incredible amount of weight ahead of his Intercontinental Title prevalence.

Vince McMahon coming back to power doesn't wholly mean GUNTHER is doomed, but he's hardly in the position he was previously. A spruce WrestleMania triple threat vs. Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, alongside his Royal Rumble performance and slew of Intercontinental Title defences, will ideally install trust in GUNTHER from Vince.
