10 Defining Matches That Make People Hate John Cena
3. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar - Extreme Rules 2012
Another major reason why Cena gains so much hatred amongst wrestling fans is his ability to no sell like anyone else in the business. He can take beating after beating, before suddenly rising to win a match from seemingly nowhere. And that has never been more apparent than in his match against Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules 2012. In all fairness, Cena was absolutely dominated in that contest, with Lesnar taking him apart limb from limb all the way through. It was a real vintage performance from Lesnar, but yet Cena somehow rose up off the canvas to somehow win from nowhere. However, it wasn't so much the result or the match which contributed to Cena's popularity levels getting even worse. He had just been destroyed by perhaps the most ruthless man ever to step into a WWE ring, and the show should have closed with Cena selling the beating - like Brock deserved. However, instead, we had a pretty meaningless promo from Cena to close proceedings, which was a bit of a kick in the teeth for Lesnar. It was a classic example of Cena not selling the match correctly, and was really stupid to see. In fact, it completely killed Brock Lesnar's momentum he had since returning to the WWE - as has been the case with many other stars in the past.
