10 Defining Matches That Make People Hate John Cena

4. John Cena vs. CM Punk - Money In The Bank 2011

By the time 2011 had rolled around, John Cena's popularity had well and truly hit rock bottom. His character change - as well as his feuds with WWE stars the fans simply loved - had seen him become a real anti-hero. And that role stood him in good stead for an incredibly pivotal match in the middle of 2011, which took place at Money in the Bank. He had agreed to face CM Punk for the WWE Championship at the event, but the circumstances surrounding the match were far from ordinary. With Punk's contract coming to an end the night after Money in the Bank, he had passionately declared he would leave the company with the WWE Championship. With the event taking place in Punk's hometown of Chicago, the few remaining John Cena fans perhaps knew what to expect when he walked out to defend his belt in the main event. The reaction was incredible, as almost every single person inside the arena was firmly on the side of Punk - a guy who had picked up some pretty huge heat himself during this feud. The tables turned on that night though, with Punk very much the people's choice. It was a pretty defining night for the career of CM Punk, as it would be the match that would finally launch him into a permanent main event player. For Cena though, it was yet another night that sent his popularity plummeting more and more.
