Desperate to keep hold of her man in times of trouble, Stephanie lied to HHH about a pregnancy. McMahon returned in January 2002 when Triple H made that most memorable of comebacks after that quad injury. This all looked rosy to begin with but the couple began having problems as McMahon began acting like a nagging and clingy wife. Soon after, and as part of the storyline, the couple 'divorced' after McMahon claimed to be pregnant in order to trick Triple H into renewing their marital vows. Triple H discovered that she was lying and left her at the altar during the renewal ceremony. After Triple H won the Royal Rumble, McMahon appointed herself special guest referee in a match between Kurt Angle and The Game at No Way Out with Hunter's Undisputed WWF Championship shot on the line. Of course, HHH lost, but would still go on to Mania and claim the Undisputed Championship from Chris Jericho.
