Oh for goodness sake, not another flag. Unlike the previous instances however, this one landed the person involved and WWE in some serious hot water. Happening during a WWE live event in Brazil, a Brazilian national flag ended up in Chris Jericho’s hands. Y2J, being a heel at the time and playing up his character to the fullest, kicked it away in order to further incite the crowd. Cue pandemonium.

Jericho was cornered by Brazilian police with the indication being he could very well end up behind bars. After being escorted to the airport, WWE were able to pull enough strings to get him safely out of the country and eventually back to the United States. Jericho was later slapped with a 30 day suspension and a fine, the latter he claims to have never paid.

It was an incredibly messy situation all around with everyone pointing their fingers at each other. Most would agreed that the Brazilian authority massively overreacted to what was only a character move, and not an intended disrespect.

Jericho and Vince would also butt heads over the matter, with the boss being upset at losing a lucrative market, because of course he was, and Chris fuming that his employers didn’t back him up more strongly. Maybe next time don’t kick national symbols just to be on the safe side.
