10 Disappointing Wrestling Reveals That Let EVERYBODY Down
3. No Monè, Mo' Problems
The garishly-dressed audience member in the above photo is correct - the Saraya/Baker/Mystery Partner angle was, indeed, baka.
AEW really only have themselves to blame here. Weeks of nudge-nudge, wink-wink promos ("I'm The BOSS") fuelled fan specualtion that WWE's Sasha Banks - now going by Mercedes Monè - would be Saraya's tag partner against the duo of Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. Indeed, fans were so expectant of this result that when Toni Storm announced herself as Saraya's partner the week before the bout, many thought it was just another ruse from the company to hide Mercedes' arrival.
It wasn't. Toni walked out to what we can best describe as "polite displeasure" - the audience knew Toni had been put in a bad spot, so didn't turn on her as vociferously as you might think, but they clearly weren't happy.
What really sent them over the edge was when the arena went dark after the match and AEW - having apparently learned nothing from the Satnam Singh debacle - left the audience with... the AEW Rampage logo playing on the tron.
Fool us once, AEW...
