10 Dream Wrestling Matches (That We Really Needed To Happen This Decade)

6. Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs. CM Punk

CM Punk's infamous 2011 "pipebomb" was considered a cutting edge moment in a PG era WWE and quite rightly put many of us in mind of Stone Cold Steve Austin. A voice for the voiceless who wasn't afraid of authority or the consequences of speaking out, Punk was to the modern product what Austin was to the Attitude Era, and naturally all of these comparisons had fans hoping for a dream match between the pair.

According to Punk, it once came close to happening but alas things didn't work out and the pair never collided. Of course, it's hard to think of this as anything but a shame because Punk was, at one point in time, more over (and arguably more consistent) than anyone else in the company so the idea of him facing a returning Stone Cold was just too good to be true. Unfortunately, that's exactly what it was.

Austin's been retired for over 15 years now, so even with Punk's sort-of return to WWE television (through Fox) it wouldn't be too out-there to claim that the chances of a match between the pair are incredibly slim, but the fact of the matter is that they were always pretty slim. 'The Rattlesnake' knew when to call it a day and if the cutting edge CM Punk couldn't get him out of retirement over the past decade, it's highly unlikely that he'd be able to convince the 54-year-old now.

It really is a shame because, once upon a time, Austin vs. Punk could've been incredible.
