5. Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs. Brock Lesnar
The tales of the match that never was between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar are certainly thought-provoking. Yes, way back during 'The Beast's initial run with the company, he was scheduled to go over 'The Rattlesnake' on Raw. However, Austin outright refused to do that, feeling that a match (and moment) so huge shouldn't be wasted as a last-minute ratings grab for a random episode of Raw. That, and months of frustration over the quality of storylines, resulted in him walking out on the company.
Though old Stone Cold was certainly right in principle, that moment robbed us all of seeing a match that would go on to top so many people's lists of potential dream matches and it's frustrating to think that it was so close to happening.
Lesnar's 2012 return to WWE (after nearly a decade away from it) once again ignited interest in the possibility of seeing these two clash - especially considering his last appearance came in the form of a Stone Cold Stunner at WrestleMania XX - and even though it would have been a decade too late as both of their best in-ring days were behind them, it would have been better late than never.
As with all of his dream matches that never were, it never came to fruition because Austin 3:16 was understandably determined to remain retired. Oh what could have been...
