10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Were Huge Disappointments
8. Team WCW VS Team WWF - Invasion/Survivor Series 2001
Ever since the Monday Night Wars, fans had wanted to see WCW and WWF stars come to physical confrontation. After Vince McMahon purchased the company in 2001, fans saw their wish come true in form of the Invasion story-line. While we did get WCW wrestlers and WWF wrestlers in the same ring, the 'dream matches' weren't exactly what we had pictured. The first major confrontation came in the form of the inaugural brawl at the WWF Invasion pay-per-view, which saw wrestlers from the WCW/ECW alliance go head to head with Team WWF. This Alliance team consisted of; Diamond Dallas Page, Booker T, Rhyno, and The Dudley Boyz going against the WWF wrestlers; Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker and Kane. This team had two former WCW World Heavyweight Champions, but other than that was formed of wrestlers who were already working for the WWF when the angle begun. Not to mention, no one had really wanted the presence of ECW in The Invasion. The match wasn't bad, but the angle would only become more diluted from here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dTluITDmks The next and final major confrontation of the story-line saw The Alliance go against Team WWF, winner takes all at Survivor Series. By this point, The Alliance had shifted to mainly feature WWF talent who had defected, rather than wrestlers who had actually worked for WCW or ECW. The Alliance team for Survivor Series consisted of; Booker T, RVD, Shane McMahon, Kurt Angle and Stone Cold against the WWF's; The Rock, Chris Jericho, Big Show, Undertaker and Kane. Again, the match was actually great, but if WCW wrestlers weren't featured as the integral focus, clearly the story-line had lost all point. The Invasion angle gave us Team WCW and Team WWF going at it, but the dream matches weren't entirely what we thought they would be.
