8. Brock Lesnar (2013) vs. Ricky Steamboat (1989)
Both guys in this one could be featured in numerous entries, such is their iconic status: both have shown themselves to be capable of having great matches with virtually anyone they face, with very different formulas. When Brock Lesnar debuted he took WWE by storm, rocketing to the top of the company while delivering classic matches with The Rock and Kurt Angle, as well as getting the best of the Undertaker, a rarity in any era. After a successful run in UFC, he returned in 2012 and despite being nearly a decade older than his last appearance, was not noticeably slower and definitely a smarter worker. His matches with Punk and Cena (we'll ignore the Triple H trilogy) were masterpieces of brutality and human suffering. Ricky Steamboat is one of the most acclaimed wrestlers of any generation, by fans and peers alike. Ric Flair's called him the greatest babyface of all-time, and it's hard to argue against that assessment. Their classic series in 1989, as well as Steamboat's match with Randy Savage hold special places in wrestling lore. What made "The Dragon" so great was his ability to sell the offense of his opponent as if he were dying and draw tremendous sympathy from the crowd. A match between these two would have a very simple yet effective story. After opening with some nice exchanges and displays of technical brilliance, "The Beast Incarnate" would start pulverizing Steamboat for 20 minutes, beating him within an inch of his life. Steamboat would be on the verge of his demise, crying in agony at the pain the monster has inflicted on him. Then, when it seems all hope is lost, he briefly escapes the clutches of death's dark embrace and pulls out the inconceivable victory. It would be quite the emotional roller coaster.
