9. Goldberg (1998) vs. Nikita Koloff (1986)
During Goldberg's incredible undefeated streak that included his WCW Heavyweight Championship win over Hulk Hogan in the Georgia Dome, the company always struggled to find opponents who could serve as credible threats to defeat the intense former Atlanta Falcon. When the streak was finally broken, it took Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and a cattle prod to beat him. Scott Steiner, Sid Vicious and Bam Bam Bigelow all had runs with Goldberg during WCW's dying days but none of those feuds truly managed to capture the fans' interest. Enter Nikita Koloff. In 1986 Koloff was one of the hottest heels in Jim Crockett Promotions. He was a massive, explosive powerhouse, built in the same vein as The Road Warriors and every bit as nasty. In 1985 Koloff had a title match vs. Ric Flair at the Great American Bash that cemented him as a star, so much so that Vince McMahon approached him about joining the WWE to feud with Hulk Hogan, leading to the main event of WrestleMania 2 (which is a topic for a future entry). The year that followed was the peak of his heel run. 1986 gave us the best-of-seven series against Magnum TA, in one of the most fondly remembered feuds ever seen. Koloff was on fire and he looked unstoppable. Goldberg vs. Nikita Koloff would have been a natural matchup between two monsters of similar size, strength and limited ability who made the most of what they had. Nikita could have provided Goldberg with the daunting threat his character needed to stay fresh and we would have been treated to two bulls locking horns until someone dropped. It would have been ugly, but it would have been fun.
