10 Dream WWE Matches Between Stars From Different Eras

7. Steve Austin (1998) vs. The Four Horsemen (1988)

The biggest star of all-time vs. the most influential stable in history. This one is a no-brainer. 1998 was the year that "Stone Cold' blew up and became a household name. His popularity transcended wrestling and helped WWE break into the pop culture consciousness. His feud with Vince McMahon is the most successful angle the company has ever done and he caused a ruckus on every show he appeared on. Austin truly was a phenomenon the likes of which we'll probably never see again. The 1988 version of The Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Barry Windham) had a stranglehold on all the championships in the NWA. The 3rd incarnation of the group, this one is typically the most fondly remembered. The Horsemen were masters at making their opponents look like superstars and elevating everyone they worked with while never losing their heat. They made life a living hell for Dusty Rhodes, the Rock n' Roll Express, the Road Warriors and many others. Had these men been together during their primes we would have seen Flair trying to halt Austin's ascent to the top of the mountain. "To be the man, you have to beat the man" was Flair's mantra, and that often meant beat the man and his 3 friends as well. We could have easily gotten a year or more out of the Horsemen throwing obstacles in Austin's path, forcing him to overcome Blanchard, Anderson and Windham in main events before finally leaving Flair with no choice but to face him one on one. The ultimate loner tough guy vs. the bad boys with the pack mentality is a story that we'd likely never forget.
