10 DUMB WWE Matches (We Didn't Want To Admit Were GENIUS!)

6. “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever”

Both Edge and Randy Orton had to be sighing backstage when they heard WWE's plan for Backlash 2020. The company promoted their grudge bout as "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever", and they slapped that hyperbole on the thing before it happened. This could've been an outright disaster, eh?

Unsurprisingly, Edge vs. Randy wasn't the single greatest wrestling bout to take place between the ropes. Far from it. That was an unrealistic thought anyway, but it was a carefully-constructed bit of business that proved Adam Copeland was back to his best. Or close to it, at least. Nobody could take that away from these guys.

WWE knew exactly what they were doing this with hype too. They knew even some of their haters would tune in just to see things fall flat. The "Greatest Ever" branding was sillier than a Goldberg main event push in 2024, but it did create some conversation and buzz ahead of the PPV.

Let's not try this again though.
