10 DUMB WWE Matches (We Didn't Want To Admit Were GENIUS!)

5. ‘Custody Of Dominik’ Ladder Match

This is the match that created a legend, for goodness sake!

Right, seriously - the whole 'Custody Of Dominik' thing heading into SummerSlam 2005 divided fans. Some viewed it as just another sports entertainment spectacle (and were used to that sort of thing), whereas others questioned the morality of putting a literal child's future up for grabs in a ladder match.

This was so over the top that it almost seemed laughable, but WWE had two secret weapons in waiting to keep everything fairly sane: Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. They knew one another inside out as workers, and they were still going to work an absolute banger on pay-per-view. The Dom Dom stuff was a mere sideshow.

It did add some story spice to the occasion too, admittedly. The idea that Guerrero could gain legal custody of Rey's son after helping the Mysterio clan out years before (Rey was apparently firing blanks, or so the story claimed) was dramatic for sure.

OTT and ridiculous, but a dramatic layer on the familiar Rey vs. Eddie formula.
