10 DUMB WWE Matches (We Didn't Want To Admit Were GENIUS!)

4. Gimmick Battle Royal

WWE should repeat this trick. That's it. End of entry.

At WrestleMania X-Seven, the promotion booked no less than 20 nostalgia acts (although Harvey Wippleman was outside the ring) to show up for a 'Gimmick Battle Royal' that paid homage to the past. Absences from the full-time crew for some weren't as long as you might be thinking. For example, Duke Droese had been on TV in 1996 - just five years prior.

The same goes for Jim Cornette, who had graced fed screens regularly as late as 1999. Regardless, people in Houston were rather chuffed to see some old faves from yesteryear show face to wobble around the place and act as a buffer between more important matches. This was all so daft, and technically terrible, but it was also endearing.

Wouldn't it be lovely if WWE did something like this again? They could even frame it as a 'Hall Of Fame Battle Royal' and give some old timers a nice payday without chewing up much time on otherwise super-important cards. Nostalgia is powerful, and leaning on it can be genius.
