Well, this isn't going to be popular.

No, a lot of readers aren't going to like this, but WWE were looking at things from a business perspective when they trashed Kofi Kingston's title reign on the 4 October 2019 episode of SmackDown. That was the show's debut on FOX, so Vince McMahon fancied booking something monumental that'd rock the boat and get everyone talking.

Like it or not, he achieved that goal. It's also true that, whilst 'KofiMania' was magical, Brock Lesnar is a much bigger star than the New Day man. So, sure, the circumstances were rotten for anyone who had invested in Kingston, but Lesnar had instant heat on him that'd carry all the way to Drew McIntyre's win at the super-weird WrestleMania 36.

Just ignore the wonky Cain Velasquez stuff. That was definitely rubbish, but time has been kinder to Brock's win than some would be willing to admit. It reeked of McMahon playing favourites, which then fed right into Drew's Royal Rumble win and eventual title glory.

Having a killer heel like Lesnar to shoot down really helped McIntyre out.
