The Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal, were one of the most influential tag teams in wrestling history. They were two huge men in intimidating face-paint and giant football shoulder pads with spikes on them. Their promo style was unique in its intensity and their inspired a myriad of copycats, most notably WWFs Demolition. They were one of the biggest success stories to come out of the 1980s, but when they returned to the WWF in the late-1990s, they found wrestling had moved on without them, so WWF came up with a boundary-pushing storyline to make them more edgy. Throughout his life and career, Road Warrior Hawk, AKA Michael Hegstrand struggled with addiction problems, both with drugs and alcohol and WWF attempted to take these real world struggles and incorporate them into stories. Tension mounted between Hawk and Animal as the former would often show up to wrestling matches seemingly under-the-influence, so a third member, Puke, was added to the team. As the on-screen Hawks troubles got worse, he attempted to commit suicide by diving from the Titantron. Puke went up, seemingly to help him, but it was eventually revealed that it was Puke that was enabling Hawk in the first place and pushed him in order to take his place in the team. Both Hawk and Animal were incredibly uncomfortable with the story and left the WWF shortly after.
