10 Dumbest Storylines In WWE History
4. The Second Son
In 2007, WWE had planned to strap a rocket to the back of popular rising star Mr Kennedy. At WrestleMania 23, he won the Money In The Bank but ultimately lost the briefcase due to a misdiagnosed injury. Plan B was to reveal him as Mr McMahon’s secret son to set him up for a main event push and feuds with Shane McMahon and Triple H. When Kennedy was suspended, WWE decided to choose someone else instead of waiting for his return.
Their choice: Hornswoggle.
Not any of the many other up-and-comers at the time, no, WWE went with Finlay’s green suited sidekick. What followed was months of awful segments between Vince and his son before a bizarre reveal that Finlay was actually Hornswoggle’s dad. JBL got involved and frequently assaulted Hornswoggle before revealing Vince’s whole family were in on the con (something that was never expanded upon, much like Vince’s lockbox in 2016).
Beyond giving loathsome heel JBL some additional heat and a win at his first WrestleMania in two years, this long running storyline did nothing beyond eating up airtime and pointlessly making fools of everyone involved.
