John Cena and Roman Reigns have crossed paths on many occasions, though they’ve never met in one-on-one competition, nor have they feuded. The closest they’ve come was Battleground 2014, when they met in a WWE Championship Fatal Four Way, but Cena covered Kane, not Reigns, for the match’s decisive pinfall.

Roman’s recent SummerSlam announcement and John’s newfound free agent status had fans wondering if they were finally set to wrestle in 2017, but Braun Strowman’s return suggests this won’t be the case. Before this, the strongest hint towards a potential feud came in December 2015, when the duo engaged in an intense staredown after Raw went off the air.

What happens when the cameras stop rolling isn’t usually considered canon, but the confrontation was all over the internet the following morning, with sources speculating that it’d lead to a WrestleMania 32 bout. This obviously wasn’t the case, and the feud is yet to materialise.

The crowd reactions would likely be all over the place for this one, given their mutual divisiveness among the fanbase, but Cena and Reigns are both skilled enough to make it work.
