10 Epic WWE TV Matches That Could Have Been On PPV

6. Shawn Michaels Vs. Rob Van Dam - Raw 2002

When Rob Van Dam entered the WWF in the early 2000s, many compared the cocky, acrobatic antics of 'Mr PPV' to the cocky, acrobatics of a certain 'Mr WrestleMania'. As such, a HBK/RVD bout was a dream match for a lot of fans and Michaels' return in August 2002 made that dream a genuine possibility.

It didn't take long for WWE to jump at the opportunity and, within a matter of weeks of his full-time return, Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam was booked. What's more, the match marked HBK's first title defence since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series 2002.

Dressed very unlike the HBK of old, Shawn Michaels was still finding his feet since returning to WWE and seemed half a step off in this bout. In fact, this contest was only his third match since returning and marked his first on Raw since his title defence against Owen Hart five years earlier.

Had the match been held off for a month or two, this collision could have easily been a marquee tie on PPV. No Way Out just two months later would have been perfect, considering it was held in Montreal and neither man had a notable slot on the show.
